Session 1
I came up with the idea to synthesise an ester for my project. After researching esters for ideas, I chose methyl cinnamate as it smells of strawberries. In my research, I came across Fischer esterification. I decided to do that for my project because it seemed to be both feasible and challenging
Session 2
I began researching the reaction mechanism for Fischer esterification reactions, taking notes in a workbook. My research introduced me to Le Chateliers principle which I would need to do further research on. I also watched a few reaction videos on youtube to see some examples
Session 3
I compiled a list of all the chemicals I would need for the project and did some research on each of the chemicals in order to determine a method of separation. I also did some research to make sure that the chemicals I needed were permitted for use in government schools
Session 4
I further developed my research question, adding that I would now be determining how to maximise the yield for the synthesis. I also compiled a list of equipment that I would need for the investigation and finalised the method of separating the ester from everything else
Session 5
I began writing code for this website using notepad. I added the home page, practical report page, and project logbook page. I also began working on the aesthetics for the website. I decided to use notepad to write the code because it doesn't require any download and is easy to use
Session 6
I wrote the code for my website's tutorial page. I included the video and pictures that I took earlier
Session 7
I coded the home page explained the project, linked the guide that I followed and inserted videos of some of the original creators tutorials
